A comet discovered on Friday September 30, 2011 by an amateur astronomer disintegrated on Saturday October 1, 2011 when it plunged into the Sun.
The Corongraph of NASA/ESA's SOHO captured the last few hours of the comet.
Very shortly after the comet dove into the Sun a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) exploded. As of current solar scientists do not believe that a comet can trigger a Coronal Mass Ejection - however, the question of if a comet could cause a magnetic instability on the Sun remains and is being studied.
On July 6, 2011 the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) observed a sungrazing comet and it appeared to interact with the plasma and magnetic field as it fell apart.
The first two segments in this video are from October 1, 2011 and were observed by NASA/ESA's SOHO spacecraft. The last two segments were captured by NASA's SDO on July 5, 2011.

My favorite video entertainer and all-around babe, Jenna Marbles, is back with this hilarious video (where does she get this shit?) where she shares her personal formula for devising awesome pet names for people instead of using those lame ones like “honeypie” or “sweety.”
Completely overlook the fact that Jenna does the entire video with a dog in her shirt. That’s just the way this wacky girl rolls. Don’t ask.
Enjoy!

- There’s plenty of debate as to how humans first learned how to kiss. However, kissing as we know it was probably perfected by ancient Romans, who used kissing on the mouth and eyelids to greet each other and seal bargains. Just imagine doing that with the cashier clerk at your local store!
- A recent online poll pegged that “the most important part of kissing” was the use of hands. Not surprisingly, incorporating your hands when learning how to kiss will guarantee that you’ll get that second date. Try cupping the person’s face with your hands, or running your hands through their hair. If you’re feeling more lustful, gentle tug on the person’s hair and lightly drag your nails on their scalp. They’ll be readying for more than just kissing after that move!
- The same poll also indicated that the things that ruin kissing the most are: too much saliva, using too much tongue, chapped lips and traveling hands. So keep your hands at a PG level, and learn to master the art of the French kiss before introducing any tongue action!
- Don’t restrict your kisses to the mouth area; in fact, the ears, neck and shoulders all make great places to give a quick kiss or two. For a sweet gesture, kiss your partner’s shoulder the next time they wear a tank top. Or whisper something romantic in their ear and give it a gentle kiss. And don’t forget the power of neck kisses – just don’t leave any hickeys, as they’re a kissing faux pas!
- If you want to make your partner take the kissing initiative, then perfect this move: tilt your head slightly to your right and slowly look at their face. Your eyes should follow this motion: look at their eyes, then their nose, back to their eyes, and finally, linger on the lips. You’ll be kissing in no time flat!

Search engines help connect Internet users with the information they’re seeking. Here’s how search engines work:
Search engines analyze the words on webpages, especially words that are
repeated or otherwise called out: in boldface, in a headline, in a
link, and so on. The engine records those important words and
phrases—the page’s keywords—on its servers.
When you type the words you’re looking for into a search box, the
engine tries to match your words with the words from webpages it has
analyzed, and it then delivers a list of matches. The engine organizes that list from best to worst, ranking the results according to a variety of criteria (such as how many other sites find a page valuable and link to it).
People usually click the links on the first page of results, so sites at the top of the list are more likely to get visitors. And more visitors can mean more page views, more leads, more sales, more ad revenue, and other business benefits.

A number of SEO (search engine optimization) techniques exist to give sites an advantage in this ranking,
and many of these apply to Web design. But as a content creator, your
best SEO techniques are (1) to write information-rich copy that people
will want to read and link to and (2) to figure out which words people
are likely to use in searches, and then embed those keywords throughout
your copy.
SEO copywriting is about using the exact terms that people are
searching on so that it’s completely obvious what your page or article
is about. SEO copywriting is not about trying to trick search engines by
stuffing content with unrelated keywords or with so many keywords that
the copy sounds silly. Good SEO copywriting makes your page more readable for both search engines and humans. It helps your website attract visitors, but it also helps your visitors find substantial, relevant content.
Best practices in brief
SEO is competitive: There’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to get
your site on a first page of search results. But as a content creator, you can help bump up your site’s ranking just by optimizing the text and links.
Here are the basic principles of good SEO for writers and editors:
- Offer original content with genuine value and relevance to your readers.
- Strategically seed your copy with keywords that describe your content and that correspond with the phrases people are using to perform their searches.
- Embed keywords where they matter most: in the title, headings, links, metadata (part of your page’s source code), and image and video tags.
- Make every page of your site unique: In addition to original content, each page should have its own topic, title, and page-specific keywords (though you can use the highest-volume keywords throughout your site—see “Keyword research tools” for assistance in finding the best keywords).
- Deliver on the promise of your keywords: Don’t lure people to your site with words that don’t accurately represent your content.
- Link to other relevant sites, and encourage those sites to link to yours.
- Optimize your site for people first—through clear, concise writing—and for search engines second. Implement SEO without turning your text into nonsense.
TIP
All the SEO copywriting skill in the world won’t help your site if a
search engine can’t read it. This is the case with text saved as an
image: The image looks like a blank portion of the page to a search
engine. Avoid saving text as an image.
How search engines read a webpage
Even though people and search engines scan webpages differently, there are some similarities:
- Page title. Both people and search engines need to know at a glance what a page is about. The page title, sometimes called the <title> tag, is inserted in the code of a webpage. You’ll see it in the top bar of a Web browser, as in the following example.
Example
The <title> tag for this page is “The top news headlines on current events from Yahoo! News.”
See “Coding basics” for examples of other HTML tags, both in page code and as they will appear in a browser.
- Headlines, emphasized words, and lists. Both people and search engines know that anything called out in headlines or subheadings, in boldface or italics, or in bulleted lists is likely to be important. Make sure headings, links, and lists in your Web copy are called out with HTML tags.
- Introduction and conclusion. Readers will scan your opening paragraph or your summary for quick information. And search engines, to understand what the subject of a page is, look for keywords throughout that page, including at the top (the introduction) and the bottom (the conclusion). But don’t just shove keywords into the top or the bottom of your page—distribute them evenly throughout.
- Related links. Humans appreciate options for more information. Search engines, too, like to see that you’ve linked to other websites and that other websites have linked to yours.
Search engines and people both like:
- Verbosity. In the search engine world, verbosity means substantial, relevant, original content. Do fill your page with words, but write succinctly: Make sure that every word you write is relevant to your audience and to the topic you’re addressing.
- Good writing. To a search engine, good writing means using variations of your keywords, including those with different endings. For example, if you are targeting the phrase job interview, use the singular, plural, -ing, and -ed forms, such as job interviews and job interviewing.
Search engines and people both dislike:
- Bad writing. Search engines are more likely to penalize your website when you stuff your copy with unrelated keywords, strand a list of keywords at the bottom of your page, and rely too much on headlines and links. Your entire page should be relevant: Like a muffin with the right amount of blueberries, it should have juicy keywords distributed evenly throughout, but not so many that they overwhelm the whole.
- Broken links. Search engines want to provide a great experience for their customers by directing them to a useful and informative website that works properly. Broken links tell people and search engines that a site is poorly maintained and will give people a bad experience.
(To follow the steps we took in optimizing a fictional site, see “Example: Seed copy with keywords for SEO.” In Chapter 17 of The Yahoo! Style Guide, you can learn more about choosing ideal keywords and inserting them in your copy.)
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of the most important
ingredients for getting large amounts of traffic to your website besides
high-quality content. Because once your articles are a few weeks old,
the majority of the traffic to those articles will come from search
engines. That's why it's important to rank high in search engines.
In this article I'm going to show you 10 basic SEO tips that you should keep in mind when writing a new article or developing a new website to make sure your blog ranks high in the search engines.
Please keep in mind that Google only displays the first 70 characters(about 8 words) of your page's title. Google does not even index the keywords in your page's title after the 12th or so word. Yahoo and MSN don't even index pages that have a page title that's too long. Source: Google – How Many Words In A Page Title Tag?

In this article I'm going to show you 10 basic SEO tips that you should keep in mind when writing a new article or developing a new website to make sure your blog ranks high in the search engines.
1. Place Your Keywords In the Title Tag
The title tag is one of the most important things for ranking high for particular keywords. That's why it's very important to think of a title that contains important keywords and grabs the attention of people. Because when people search on search engines like Google, the title of your page will be displayed in the results and people will click on links that are the most attractive to them first. Remember that it's also very important and rewarding to have a unique title, so before you use the title, Google it and see if the title already appears in the top 10 results. Please keep in mind that Google only displays the first 70 characters(about 8 words) of your page's title. Google does not even index the keywords in your page's title after the 12th or so word. Yahoo and MSN don't even index pages that have a page title that's too long. Note: WordPress users should use the All in One SEO Pack plugin for WordPress. This plugin gives you the ability to easily place the title of your post in the beginning of your <title> tag.
2. Optimize Your Robots.txt
Having an optimized robots.txt is important because this file can control which pages of your websites get crawled by the search engine spiders. For those of you who use WordPress, I recommend preventing search engine spiders from crawling wp-admin and plugin folders.Take a look at my my Robots.txt to get an idea of how it works. Its code is pretty much self explanatory but if you want a better understand of it take a look a the links mentioned below.
Here are some more resources about the robots.txt file:
3. Proper Use of the ALT Attribute
The <alt> attribute should be used to describe an image, not to spammed with keywords that have nothing to do with the image. Why? Because while it's true that search engine spiders cannot read images, they can however read the <alt> attribute, and having it spammed with keywords that are totally irrelevant to the image will make Google aware of what to derank you for.
Here's some more information about the alt attribute:
4. Anchor Text of Links
The anchor text is the text inside your <a> tags that links to other pages. Wether they're incoming or outgoing links, it's important for the anchor text to contain a description of where the link is taking the visitor. This is even more important for search engines because it tells its crawlers where the link is going. So avoid using words like "Click Here" as an anchor text as it can hurt both your website and the website you're linking to. One more thing to keep in mind is to keep the characters in your anchor text under 55.
5. Quality of Inbound and Outbound Links
While most web developers know that having many web sites link to your can boost your rankings, a lot of them don't know that the quality of the websites linking to your websites plays a vital role in your website's page rank. Getting links for random dofollow blogs has a way smaller impact than if a website with a high pagerank links to your website in an article.Who you link to matters, as Google warned webmasters that they can be penalized if they link to spam websites. Linking to really bad websites (malware injecting websites etc.) can easily get your site removed from Google's search engine results pages(SERPs). One thing to keep in mind is that Google's spiders might not follow all of your links if you have over 100 unique outbound links on a single page.

6. Proper Use of Header Tags
<h1>, <h2> tags etc. should be used when appropriate. Don't be using <h2> tags as a paragraph or using <div> class="title"</div> to display the title of your page or something. Here's a few things to keep in mind when using header tags:
- only use one <h1> tag per page
- you can use as many <h2> - <h6> tags as you like in your pages
- search engine crawlers only read basic html
- How To Use Tags – Proper Use Of H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6 Elements
- How to optimize keywords in header tags.
7. Importance of the First Paragraph
Your first paragraph is the most important paragraph in your page. This is because it's the first paragraph search engines scan and they assume that it's somewhat of a summary of the page/article. That's why it's essential to have the most important keywords of your page in the first sentence or two.If you're using the All in One SEO Pack plugin for WordPress, the plugin will automatically take the content from your first paragraph and place it in the meta description, which is the text that search engines display under the title of your page.
8. Ensure Your Site is Accessible
An accessible website should ensure that its content can be successfully delivered as often as possible. The functionality of pages, the uptime of the server, validity of HTML elements are all parts of site accessibility. If these points are either ignored or faulty, both your visitors and search engines will select other websites to visit.Use tools like:
To know if your site contains broken links or when your site is down.
9. Use SEO Friendly URLs
The URL of a page should be descriptive so both the users and search engines have an idea what the page they're being linked to consists of. SEO Friendly URLs also have the benefit of serving as their own anchor text when copy pasted to forums etc. due to URL having the keywords of the page in its URL. These type of URLs usually rank higher in search engines than pages with a URL like example.com/p=981489894.Furthermore, when using Dynamic URLs try to keep your dynamic parameters under 2 or else the chance is high than it might not get crawled by search engine spiders unless they're perceived as very important(ie. have a large amount of inbound links).
10. Site Usability
If your website is cluttered with ads and has a terrible layout, accessibility, navigation and low quality of content, chances are that you'll get less people linking back to your site than one that has better usability than yours, thus resulting in lower page ranking. If your website was designed in the 90s you seriously need consider hiring a web designer to redesign your website.
Introduction
As many of us web developers already know, Google is rated by many
as the number one search engine in the world. We personally know that
our websites get about 90% of their search engine traffic direct from
Google searches.Getting indexed by Google can be a pain, but getting highly placed rankings for specific keywords seems to be the nut that not many web developers without SEO (search engine optimization) experience or seo training can crack.
Today we’re going to give you an informative primer on the basics of search engine optimization techniques — many of which we use everyday to optimize our websites and stay ahead of our competitors.
4 Steps to Better Rankings
We personally believe in the “practice what you preach” approach to
all things business related — especially SEO. So, before we continue,
here’s a sample of keywords and Google rankings for some of our
websites:| Website | Keywords | Google Ranking | |
| Activekb.com | Knowledgebase software | #2 of 4,980,000 | |
| DevEdit.com | Online HTML editor | #3 of 9,080,000 | |
| MyFreeTemplates.com | Free Dreamweaver Templates | #4 of 93,600 |
Step 1. Choosing The Right Keywords
Choosing the right keywords to base your site optimization around is an important first step. General or generic keywords are usually not the best approach, and sometimes it’s better to be a little more specific and focus on niche keywords relating to your product or service.
For example, let’s talk about www.devedit.com — DevEdit is our WYSIWYG HTML editing component that drops into browser-based applications.
The problem is, there are a LOT of WYSIWYG HTML editors, but how can we get DevEdit to appear in Google’s top 10 rankings? Well, let’s see. Trying to optimize for the keyword “HTML” alone would be a tough task, as it’s too general. There are HTML editors, HTML tutorials, HTML articles, etc.
We need to be more specific, which means:
- Targeting a more suitable market that is looking for a content editing solution
- Competing with fewer websites targeting the same keywords
- Optimizing for keywords that people actually use when performing searches
For example, if you’re optimizing for a web development site and you’re located in Sydney, Australia, use keywords such as “web development Sydney” or “web development services Australia”.
To find out how many websites are competing with your keywords — either intentionally or not — simply do a search on Google and note down how many results are returned. In our case, for “online html editor”, we’re competing with 9,080,000 sites. The more sites that are competing for your keywords, the harder it will be to get on the front page.
Alternatively, to get a rough indication of how many people are actually searching for the keywords you want to optimize your site for, use the Overture search suggestion tool. It’s not exact, and doesn’t measure Google searches, but it does give a very good estimate.
The Overture search suggestion tool will also provide you with a list of similar keywords, based on the keywords you enter. This can be a great way to find other keywords to optimize your site for.
As a rough guideline, try to optimize every page on your site for a different search phrase. Each search phrase should contain 2 to 3 highly targeted keywords.
Step 2. Your URL and Title Tag
Two of the most determining factors in Google’s ranking are your domain name and title tag. For example, a domain name such as:
http://www.web-development-sydney.com will generally get ranked higher than http://www.companyname.com, assuming that they had identical keywords and page content.
For some of us, keywords in the domain name look too unprofessional, and we’ve already registered our domain, so it’s too late to change. An alternative — and also a useful tactic — is to add your keywords into the names of your pages, such as
http://www.companyname.com/web-development-services.html
Your title tag is equally as important as your domain name. Using keywords in your title tag can improve your Google ranking significantly. Trying to achieve a balance of professionalism with keyword density in the title tag however is sometimes a little more difficult.
Going back to our example of a web development company earlier, a good title tag would be:
<title>”Company name provides professional affordable web development services in Sydney Australia.”</title>
Usually, the closer to the front of your title tag the keywords are placed, the better.
Step 3. H1 Tags and Keyword Density
<h1> tags seem to have been depreciated by stylesheets these days, and are not used as often as they used to be.
The Google ranking algorithm dictates that if you’re using a <h1> tag, then the text in between this tag must be more important than the content on the rest of the page. Here’s a quick example:
<h1>Google sees this text as more important</h1>By default, H1 tags aren’t the prettiest in terms of formatting, so using a CSS style to override the default look is usually a good idea:
<p>… than this text</p>
H1 { color: blue; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 16px }Sprinkling keywords throughout your page content can also improve your sites keyword density. Keyword density simply means the ratio of optimized keywords to the rest of the content on your page. It is usually expressed as a percentage, and should be between 7% and 10% for each page on your site.
Don’t overdo the keyword density, however, but don’t overlook it either. A good example would be:
Before:
- Company name provides web design and site management services to our clients.
- Company name provides web development services to the Sydney region in Australia
Step 4. Links, Links and More Links
And this leads us to the toughest part of the Google SEO process — back-links. Back links are websites that link directly to your website. The general principal is the more back links you have, the higher your pages will be ranked, as your website must be good if so many other sites are linking back to it.
If you run a web development company, then adding a simple link to the bottom of each of your client’s websites, such as:
<a href=http://www.yoursite.com>Web development by Company Name</a>… (With your clients permission of course) can help boost your back links, which will help boost your ranking position in searches.
Submitting your site to dmoz.org, Yahoo! and other directories is also an important step to increase the number of sites linking back to yours. Do remember however, that setting up back links takes time. I would recommend emailing 5-10 websites each and every day to request back-links or partnership links (keeping in mind that the sites contacted should be relevant but not competitive) e.g. – If you sell chocolate, partnering with a company that sells Roses may just be a good idea. Within a couple of weeks, you should have a good 100 or so sites happily linking back to yours!
Conclusion
Google can be one tough search engine to crack. Hopefully, however,
in this article we’ve provided you with enough basic tips to get started
optimizing both yours and your clients website.
